Chandra, the world's most powerful X-ray telescope which is named after subramanyan chandrasekher, the indian born astrophysicist and nobel laureate was launched into space on july 23.1999 by the space shuttle columbia. the space shuttle mission STS 93 was also the first with a woman in command.
